2012 Edition
On June 2012 the official opening in Rome of the three-day International Conference on Stuttering took place. A persistently thought and desired project and an important organizational challenge realized: an international Congress (the first in Italy) with such a considerable and intense program, exclusively focused on stuttering.
The Conference, organized by CRC Balbuzie in collaboration with Sapienza – University of Rome, had the participation of 280 both Italian and foreign delegates.
Under the supervision of the Scientific Committee, made of Professor Ehud Yairi, Professor Mark Onslow and Professor Donatella Tomaiuoli, almost 30 papers were presented, 22 of them were by international presenters. There were thirteen keynote lectures, given by some leading experts in the field. The papers were aimed at providing the most recent updates on stuttering features and etiology, its assessment and treatment in subjects of a different age.
The audience had the chance to share the most recent scientific achievements, in an international and friendly interchange.
Two workshops, at the end of the first two Conference days, allowed participants to better know cluttering diagnosis and treatment (in comparison with stuttering) and the Helsingborg method to treat stuttering in school-age children.
In parallel to the plenary presentations, two interactive seminars took place, focused respectively on people who stutter (the first) and both their families and teachers (the second), in order to promote a network approach, which is necessary to activate a virtuous circle with the school and the services, with an interesting own storytelling.
Some space was dedicated to posters.
The Conference was chosen by the Scientific Committee of the Turin 2014 IALP Congress, to meet and carry on its preliminary planning activity.
